The 4C's of Diamonds

When choosing a diamond, understanding the 4Cs — cut, colour, clarity, and carat — is essential. These four characteristics determine how a diamond looks and sparkles. Whether you’re buying a lab grown diamond or a natural mined diamond, the 4Cs are the universal standard used by leading gemological laboratories such as the GIA (Gemological Institute of America) and IGI (International Gemological Institute).

Every diamond is unique. No two are ever exactly alike — their cut, clarity, colour, and carat weight give every stone its own distinct beauty.

Have a look at the different categories below to see which diamond is for you.

Colour

At Arori Diamonds, every diamond is carefully selected to ensure exceptional beauty, brilliance, and quality. Whether you prefer the pristine appearance of a colourless diamond or the warmth of a naturally tinted stone, understanding diamond colour helps you choose a diamond that perfectly reflects your style and preferences.

Understanding Diamond Colour

Diamond colour is one of the most important factors influencing a diamond’s beauty and value. The less colour a white diamond possesses, the rarer and more desirable it becomes. Diamond colour is graded on a scale from D to Z, with D representing the highest level of colourlessness and Z displaying a noticeable yellow or brown tint.

D–F: Colourless
The rarest and most sought-after diamonds. These exceptional stones appear icy white and allow maximum brilliance and fire to shine through.

G–J: Near Colourless
Offering outstanding value, these diamonds appear colourless to the untrained eye while maintaining exceptional sparkle and beauty.

K–M: Faint Yellow
A subtle warmth begins to emerge, often visible only when compared to higher colour grades. These diamonds offer a distinctive character and attractive value.

N–R: Very Light Yellow
A more noticeable hint of colour is present, creating a softer appearance while still retaining brilliance.

S–Z: Light Yellow
Diamonds within this range display a visible yellow tint, giving them a warmer, more distinctive look.

Clarity

At Arori Diamonds, we carefully select diamonds that offer exceptional beauty, sparkle, and value. While higher clarity grades are rarer, many diamonds with slight inclusions appear flawless to the naked eye, making them an excellent choice for those seeking both brilliance and value.

Understanding Diamond Clarity

Diamond clarity refers to the presence of natural characteristics, known as inclusions and blemishes, that form during a diamond’s creation. While most of these characteristics are invisible to the naked eye, clarity grading helps determine a diamond’s rarity and overall value.

The internationally recognised clarity scale ranges from Flawless (FL) to Included (I), evaluating the size, number, location, and visibility of these characteristics under 10x magnification.

Flawless (FL)
No inclusions or blemishes visible under 10x magnification. These exceptionally rare diamonds represent the pinnacle of clarity.

Internally Flawless (IF)
No internal inclusions are visible under 10x magnification. Only minor surface blemishes may be present.

Very Very Slightly Included (VVS1–VVS2)
Minute inclusions that are extremely difficult for even a skilled grader to detect under magnification.
Very Slightly Included (VS1–VS2)Minor inclusions that are difficult to see under 10x magnification and are typically invisible to the naked eye.

Slightly Included (SI1–SI2)Noticeable inclusions under magnification that may be visible without magnification in some cases.

Included (I1–I3)Inclusions are visible under magnification and may be noticeable to the naked eye, potentially affecting a diamond's appearance and brilliance.
